Phoenix-Based Company's License Summarily Suspended

PHOENIX, Ariz., (Aug. 17, 2020) - On Thurs., July 13, 2020, the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (AZ ROC) summarily suspended the Specialty Dual CR-5 license (ROC 251947) held by Steven Wayne Langy, DBA Sunscreens and More of Arizona, a Phoenix-based contracting business.

Between the two-week period of July 14 - July 29, 2020, AZ ROC received four complaints alleging the company took deposits and abandoned the projects. A fifth, prior complaint was received in May 2020, also alleging abandonment.

All five property owners ordered screen doors, window coverings, and/or patio doors that were to be delivered and installed. In four cases no materials were delivered and no work performed, leaving the owners out a combined $4,491. In one case the company started work after AZ ROC conducted a job site inspection.

Based on the complaints received and the preliminary investigations, the Agency issued a summary suspension alleging three counts of abandonment, four counts of violating any rule adopted by the registrar, specifically workmanship standards, and one count of failure to take appropriate corrective action. As the investigation continues, the formal citation may be amended.

A summary suspension prohibits the licensee from being able to legally contract as of the day it is issued. In turn, it requires the Agency to provide the contractor a prompt hearing at the Office of Administrative Hearings and the hearing is set for August 24, 2020 at 9:00 AM.

The Agency encourages impacted home and property owners who have contracted with and paid Steven Wayne Langy, DBA Sunscreens and More of Arizona, but have not received completed projects to file a complaint with the Agency as soon as possible to have their cases investigated.
